Golden Ball Cactus Multi-head (Echinocactus Grusonii) Plant
Common Name: Golden Ball Cactus
Botanical Name: Echinocactus Grusonii
Also Known as:
Golden Ball
Mother-in-laws Cushion
Compass Cactus
Hedgehog Cactus
Plant Type: Golden Ball Cactus (Echinocactus Grusonii) is Perennial cactus Plant.
The aptly named golden ball (Echinocactus grusonii) is now quite rare in its native habit, but it is frequently grown in cultivation as a houseplant. Less frequently, it is used in the outdoor garden in dry climates where temperatures never fall below 40 degrees Fahrenheit (zones 10-11).
Light: A golden ball does best in a very sunny window, perhaps with southern exposure. Plants that do not get enough sunlight will grow slowly and fail to thrive.
Soil:Use cactus soil, which contains mostly inorganic matter like pumice, chicken grit, gravel, or perlite. Unlike regular potting soil, which can suffocate your barrel cactus, cactus soil allows good drainage and airflow.
Water:From spring until fall; water similar to many other house plants by watering when the soil begins drying. Before and during winter barely water the plant. Overwatering, especially when the temperature becomes cold can rot this species.
Temperature:Keep your cactus at low to moderate temperatures averaging between 50 and 75 during the day. Dont expose your cactus to temperatures lower than 40, though, as extreme cold and frost can damage the plants health.
Fertilizer: Boost with a high potassium fertilizer during the summer months.
