Sharjah, one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is exploring opportunities for trade and collaboration with Costa Rica to strengthen food security in both regions. Officials from Sharjah and Costa Rica recently met to discuss potential areas of cooperation, including the exchange of knowledge and expertise in agriculture and food processing. The two sides also explored the possibility of establishing direct trade links for agricultural products, such as fruits, vegetables, and coffee.
Sharjah, which has a well-developed food processing industry, sees Costa Rica as a strategic partner in its efforts to enhance food security and promote sustainable agriculture. Costa Rica, for its part, is keen to expand its presence in the UAE market and tap into the growing demand for high-quality agricultural products. The two sides also discussed ways to promote tourism and cultural exchange between Sharjah and Costa Rica. Sharjah is home to a vibrant cultural scene and is known for its museums, art galleries and festivals. Costa Rica, on the other hand, is famous for its natural beauty, biodiversity, and ecotourism.
Commenting on the meeting, the Director of Sharjah's Economic Development Department said, "The UAE and Costa Rica share a common vision of sustainable development and food security. We believe that there are many opportunities for collaboration in the areas of agriculture, food processing, and tourism. We look forward to working closely with our counterparts in Costa Rica to explore these opportunities and strengthen our ties."
The meeting was part of a larger effort by the UAE to enhance economic and cultural ties with Latin American countries. The UAE has been actively promoting trade and investment with the region in recent years, recognizing its growing importance as a source of food, energy, and other resources.
